Oh, the wonders of the mystical female orgasm! The female orgasm is a magical thing, that is often somewhat mysterious. And it was always this way. The idea of the female orgasm has had a complicated past. Here is the history of the female orgasm.

The medieval scientific theory of the female orgasm suggested that the lady O was required for reproduction. This means that if a woman didn't finish, it was believed that she couldn't become pregnant.

It was also believed that a woman's orgasm was very similar to a man's, except inverted. This means that women were believed to ejaculate inside of themselves when they orgasmed.

Historically, when a woman was experiencing sexual tension, they were diagnosed with hysteria. Hysteria is defined as a female-specific nervous condition that was believed to drive women insane.
The cure to this hysteria was believed to be pelvic massage, to release this tension. These massages were oftentimes performed by a doctor. The end result was usually an orgasm, which, as we know, has the tendency to relieve tension.

The vibrator was invented as a result of the treatment for hysteria. When doctors began growing tired of treating these patients manually, they created a device that could do that job for them.

In the 1940s, scientist Alfred Kinsey conducted a sexual survey, which shed a lot of light on the female orgasm. In fact, his findings still influence our current understandings of the female O!
Kinsey created the Kinsey Report, which was a huge, educational hit.

The book reported some eye-opening statistics, including that 40 percent of the women surveyed achieved their first orgasm through masturbation.

Additionally, five percent of the women who were surveyed, reached their first orgasm through a "wet dream."
The Kinsey Report also shed some light on a woman's ability to have multiple orgasms. 14 percent of the women admitted to having achieved multiple orgasms.

Also, a woman's ability to orgasm increases with age, until it tapers off between 55 and 60.

In 1967, Desmond Morris came out with a book entitled, The Naked Ape.
