Women who are having sex on a weekly basis are slowing down their aging and improving their overall health, according to a new study's findings. It doesn't even matter if the sex is all that great-- it still counts! Yes, you read that right. Curious as to what else the study has to say about the matter? Read on below!
Aging. A new study revealed that women might be able to fight time's effects (or at the very least, prolong them). How? Through increased sexual activity.

Research. Research has revealed that having sex at least once a week will slow down the aging process for women-- even if the women are not enjoying themselves during sex, Daily Mail reports.

Sexual Activity. When a woman is sexually active, it increases the length of her telomeres, according to the study. Telomeres are the caps located on the end of DNA strands.

Longer Lengths. "Telomeres that are long in length are associated with slower aging, longer lifespans, and improved overall health," Daily Mail reports. In other words, you may want to get on that sex schedule now, ladies.

Women's Telomeres. A woman's telomeres will increase in length regardless of how the sex went. Basically, even if the sex wasn't great, or the woman wasn't satisfied, the positive effects are the same.

Sex is Great. Apparently, sex is great for women's health. Researchers believe that increased sexual activity will help with a woman's stress, as well as boost her immune system, Daily Mail reports.

The Study. Conducted a the University of California, the study "analyzed physical intimacy, as well as partner support or conflict, overall relationship satisfaction and stress in 129 mothers in long-term relationships," according to Daily Mail.

The Study. In order to study the effects on a woman's telomeres, blood samples were also taken. According to Daily Mail, the study took place over the course of one week.

Results. The findings showed that the women who were having sex at least once a week had significantly longer telomeres. Sex has the greatest impact on telomere length.

No Effect. The findings, which were published in the the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology, also revealed that "relationship satisfaction, stress and partner support or conflict had no impact on telomere length," Daily Mail reports.

Why is length so important? If you're not very science-y and you're like me and you use words like science-y then this whole telomere length probably isn't making a lot of sense. But let's put it this way: sex helps to lengthen these DNA caps and as an effect, your lifespan extends as well. In short, the longer they are, the better.

Longer the Better. The longer the telomeres are the better. But just as they can increase in length, they can also decrease. "They shorten with age and poor lifestyle habits, such as alcohol abuse, however, being active lengthens them," Daily Mail reports.

Lead Author. The study's lead author, Tomás Cabeza de Baca, says "Over time, shortened telomeres may contribute to chronic degenerative diseases and premature mortality."

Lead Author. He continued: "Sexual intimacy may dampen the effects of stress by down-regulating stress response systems and up-regulating immune response. Over time, these patterns of stress function should result in longer telomere length."

Effects on Men. The effects regular and consistent sexual activity have on men are unclear. However, Daily Mail reports that just last month scientists found that having sex can prevent heart disease in men. Moral of the story: regular sexual activity is healthy and good for everyone.
