Many women dream of their wedding day long before they even meet the person they eventually end up marrying. Yes, there’s probably some silhouette in these daydreams, but on the whole, it’s not always the who that’s of interest. A woman dreams of her dress. She dreams of the food. She thinks about being walked down the aisle and tossing the bouquet. While this all may seem quite superficial, it’s a woman’s day to shine. On this day, all eyes are on her. She is the bride after all. She is going to glide down the aisle and marry the love of her life. There will then be a huge feast filled with tasty delights and loved ones constantly congratulating her. They say this is the day on which you start the rest of your life. They say it will be the happiest day of your life. Come to think of it, they say a lot when it comes to your wedding day.
They talk about all the wonderful things that accompany a wedding day, but they don’t mention the bad. The bad can basically be narrowed down to one thing: stress. Wedding days are incredibly stressful events, and this stress generally lands squarely on the bride’s shoulders. This happens not because of unwilling grooms but rather because brides opt for the stress. They want things to be perfect. This most certainly includes the dress. Oh, the dress! How women fret over the perfect dress. They go to dozens of shops and try on hundreds of dresses — all in the hope of finding a dress that makes them feel like their most beautiful self.
Each woman has a different version of their most beautiful self. Maybe it is looking like a princess or even a fairy. Then there are women who do not stick to the conventional. They don’t conform to tradition and most certainly don’t walk down the aisle in a white dress. They throw feathers into the mix. They include rhinestones, gemstones and basically any other stone that promises to sparkle. They don’t shy away from colors. They’re not afraid to mix things up with fabrics and textures. In short, they create dresses that are unique, individual and sometimes just completely off the reservation.
Then there are women who choose a theme for the wedding and match their dress to it. These themes can be completely outlandish at times, but they all have something in common. They’re generally very specific to the couple. Maybe they share a hobby or have one very particular shared interest. This becomes very clear in the decor of the wedding and — sometimes shockingly — the dress. Maybe the couple are foodies. Then it’s almost guaranteed that the dress will have some relation to food. It may look like food or actually be edible.
When it comes to a wedding, nothing is off limits. Not even garbage in some instances. This kind of thinking means that people sometimes go too far. They stretch their imagination to the limit and reach a point where they should not say yes to the dress, but they do anyway.
Yes, everyone is different and should be given space to be themselves on their wedding day. However, there are some dresses that are simply head-scratchers. They make you sit there and wonder, “What on earth were they thinking? Why would anyone wear that? How did the dress end up like that and why would you spend so much money on only one day?” The dresses that follow are truly unique. Some are so different that they actually kind of work and others just shouldn’t have happened. These dresses shouldn’t have seen the light of day, been photographed and most certainly should not have been publicized.
As long as a couple is happy on their wedding day, though, does it really matter how odd the dress looks? If the bride feels beautiful and comfortable, then who are we to judge?
