DELL'S Vostro V131 is a lightweight laptop with enough specs to handle multi-tasking effortlessly despite its petite size.
It addresses most of the issues that many found with its predecessor, the Vostro V130.
This is a full-powered, long-running, highly-functional – and still quite stylish – small-business laptop.
One of Dell’s smart decisions was to replace the sealed-in-place, tiny three-cell battery like dell Inspiron 1000 battery, dell Inspiron 2200 battery, dell 312-0292 battery, dell INSPIRON 2600 battery, dell INSPIRON 2650 battery, dell 1G222 battery, dell BAT3151L8 battery, Dell Inspiron E1405 Battery, Dell TC023 Battery, Dell XPS M140 Battery with a removable six-cell one.
Now, the Vostro V131 can not only run longer, it also offers more oomph with its amazing multi-tasking abilities.
As a slim notebook that weighs 1.82kg, it measures 329x16x238mm.
Featuring a decent screen and excellent keyboard, the V131 has a 13.3-inch HD anti-glare LED display with a standard native resolution of 1366x768 pixels and an HD webcam complete with Dell’s current collection of fun special effects.
The ports have been moved from their less-convenient location on the laptop’s back edge to the sides, and Dell added USB 3.0 connectivity in the process.
The keyboard, too, is new and improved, with Chiclet-style, backlit keys. It comes full size, taking up every available space but omitting a separate number pad.
It is also firm and comfortable to the touch, helped in part by the slightly concave keys and also the variable backlighting.
The large touchpad and mouse buttons are also equally responsive. There is also a fingerprint reader for added security.
There are three rapid access buttons above the keyboard for Windows Mobility, Dell Support Centre and the customisable Launch Manager.
Besides the WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, you can also attach WiDi-enabled digital projectors for conference room presentations.
With its chic design, V131 comes in shades of Aberdeen Silver and Lucerne Red.
The notebook is housed in a tough aluminium casing with a firm hinge that ensures the lip snaps shut without the need for a retaining clip.
There are two USB 3.0 ports for fast data transfer, one USB 2.0, an HDMI out, VGA, Ethernet, and an 8-in-1 ray drive.
The Vostro V131 boasts a duel-core second-generation Sandy Bridge Intel Core i3-2310M processor clocked at 2.10GHz and 4GB RAM which can be expanded to 8GB.
With the six-cell battery, battery life of the V131 is impressive, offering about 2.5 hours minimum usage and nearer to seven hours at light activity.
Overall, Dell’s Vostro V131, priced at RM1,999, offers better performance, longer battery life, and a more attractive design for business users looking for a well-rounded, well-built ultraportable laptop.
