HP Pavilion DV1000T Laptop

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist
of the Hp laptop battery   First post by: www.itsbattery.com

HP's Pavilion DV1000T laptop computer comes with a 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo CPU and the new Intel 945GM chipset with an integrated 950 GMA graphics processor. This is the first time MobilityGuru has looked at a mobile computer with the 950 Graphics Media Accelerator. How does the 950 GMA compare to earlier GMAs and to dedicated graphics processors?

I'll answer that question later in this review. But first let's give the DV1000T its due.

Editor's Note: We will be publishing a more detailed look at the 945GM chipset and comparing it to the 915GM chipset soon. Stay tuned.

Features

The following table presents the features of the HP Pavilion DV1000T. The table also includes Fujitsu's Lifebook N6410, which I reviewed back in March of this year. The N6410 has a number of features that are similar to those of the DV1000T. However, it sports an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics processor with 128 MB of dedicated memory and the ability to use up to 128 MB of shared system memory, instead of a 950 GMA processor.

I'll discuss some of the key features of the two computers after the table.

90 Minutes of Battery ASUS Eee PC 900

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist
of the Asus Laptop Battery   First post by: www.laptops-battery-online.com

One thing that hasn’t changed is the processor inside the Eee. It’s the same Intel Celeron 900MHz CPU on a 915GM motherboard. That’s where the Eee trumps the Via C7-M HP’s Mini-Note, which otherwise has a far better keyboard, screen quality and much more storage—but not a much higher price tag.

The extra memory gives the Eee 900 slightly better performance but despite scoring higher than usual for a PC this size on our benchmarks, performance in general doesn’t feel particularly responsive under Windows. There’s a natural limit to how powerful an application you’ll want to run on a small machine like this, because of the keyboard and screen size. We had no problem with the majority of applications, including streaming video in Windows Media Player, but we couldn’t get the VLC media player to play WMV or MOV video files, even locally, without freezing, pixelating or crashing.

The 900MHz Celeron processor inside the Eee 900 gives it a performance advantage over machines like the HP Mini-Note, which uses a low-power Via chip.

Another area where performance is disappointing is battery life. Increasing the screen size means a much bigger draw on the battery and ASUS’ own estimated battery life is half an hour less than for the Eee 701; just three hours. In use, setting Windows for maximum battery life, turning on Wi-Fi and setting screen brightness to full we got only 90 minutes of use for a mix of surfing, playing music, looking at photos and creating documents. We saw similar times for watching video files. Reduce the screen brightness and you can get this up to two hours, which is still very disappointing.

The power brick is small and easy to carry and the battery charges quickly, but that’s no comfort if you’re nowhere near a power outlet. In many countries Aus is shipping a smaller 4400mAh battery such as Asus A42-A3 Battery, Asus A42-A4 Battery, Asus A42-L5 Battery, Asus A42-M6 Battery, Asus A42-U5F Battery, Asus A42-V1 Battery, Asus A42-V6 Battery, Asus A42-W1 Battery, Asus A42-W3 Battery, Asus ACGACCBATTL8400 Battery, Asus BA-04 Battery; the larger 5100 mAh battery would give another half hour of use, and it’s worth checking which battery you get before you buy. Even so, you need the double-height extended battery to get anything approaching a reasonable battery life.

The 4400mAh battery gives the Eee 900 as little as 90 minutes of battery life.

The larger screen lowers the battery life and puts up the price of the new Eee PC to around $550. That means it puts it into competition with cheap laptops that may be less portable, but give you a bigger screen, much larger storage and a longer battery life. The Eee 900 PC is still small and attractive but it’s not quite as portable and it’s not as obviously a bargain at the price.

The ASUS Eee 900 PC is still small and as easy to carry as a book; but the shorter battery life may mean you don’t want to carry it as much.

The HP tx2000z In Real Life

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist
of Hp Laptop Battery   First post by: www.laptops-battery-online.com

The tx2000z’s battery life is a mixed bag. We report on MobileMark 2007 battery life results later in this article, but while carrying the notebook around and using it for normal workaday tasks, we usually got around 2–2.5 hours from the four-cell battery (which is no longer available from HP such as Hp n6400 Battery, Hp n6402 Battery, Hp NC6105 Battery, Hp nw8440 Battery, Hp nw9440 Battery, Hp nx5100 Battery, Hp NX6105 Battery, Hp NX6110 Battery, Hp nx6110 Battery, Hp nx6125 Battery, Hp nx8200 Battery, Hp nx8220 Battery), and 3.5-4.0 hours from its bigger eight-cell replacement. When using the notebook exclusively in tablet mode, we noticed a slight improvement in battery life over using it exclusively as a conventional notebook with the keyboard, touch pad and other components active.

The machine works best when you calibrate it for finger touch and pen. If you use your right index finger to calibrate the touch screen, you’d better keep using it to operate the machine thereafter — it’s sensitive to even slight variations in touch. The same thing is true for the pen.

Applications that don’t recognize pen input remain accessible for tablet use with HP’s pop-out virtual keyboard (it lurks at the edge of the display, where a slight touch pops it up for you to use) for input when the tx2000z operates in tablet mode. Though the display is bright and offers plenty of detail, it works best when viewed at less than 30° of angle. Touch-screen or pen input works best, in fact, when you view the screen straight on.

Because the tx2000z is a little smaller than many notebooks, the keyboard is smaller, too. But HP has done a great job with key spacing and placement (though the delete, insert, end and home keys are squeezed into a small area on the top row of keys, along with the rest of the function keys, making these pretty darn small indeed), and the keyboard offers a solid feel, easy touch and key travel. The arrow keys at the lower right also take a little getting used to, but they work nicely.

When working in "normal notebook mode" we found our typing speed didn’t suffer too much when doing normal office work tasks. The touchpad was usable as well, though we quickly opted to use a cordless laser mouse instead. A quick peek at the keyboard layout in the next photo illustrates its strengths and weaknesses effectively.

Zoom The tx2000z keyboard features a nearly full-size notebook keyboard, though function and arrow keys are small and require close attention to use.

HP Pavilion DV4000 And Toshiba Qosmio G25

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist
of the Hp laptop battery   First post by: www.itsbattery.com

If the Pavilion DV4000 is likely to stay in one place most of the time, the larger and 2 lbs (.9 kg) heavier Qosmio G25 will probably be moved very little if at all. However, that's just fine because the G25 was designed to look, feel and function more like a home entertainment component than a notebook computer. As such, it could sit forever next to an AV receiver or separate amp and preamp units. Who needs mobility in such a device?

The DV4000 is no slouch as a home entertainment device. It can be configured with an excellent DVD/CD RW device and an S-Video output jack and as with the Qosmio G25 you can play DVDs without even booting up Windows. The DV4000 even comes with an infrared port for use with an optional AV remote control. The G25 has a similar port and the remote is included.

You can configure the DV4000 with a wide range of Intel Pentium M and Celeron CPUs. The 2.13 GHz Pentium M 770 CPU in our DV4000 is slightly faster than the 2.0 GHz Pentium M 760 that was included in our Qosmio evaluation unit from Toshiba. Also the DV4000's 533 MHz memory modules give it an advantage over the G25 with its 400 MHz modules. As you'll see later, these differences made for some differences in performance.

MobilityGuru normally tests mobile computer battery life using the standard battery like Hp HSTNN-UB02 battery, Hp DP390A battery, Compaq PP2100 battery, Compaq Presario R3000 battery(Compaq r3000 battery), Compaq Presario X6000 battery, Hp Pavilion ZV5000 battery(Hp zv5000 battery), Hp Pavilion ZV6000 battery(Hp zv6000 battery), the battery normally supplied with the computer. If the manufacturer also sends a higher capacity battery, we run a key battery life test using that battery. HP sent only the 10.8 volt, 8800 mAh high capacity battery for the DV4000. So, all battery tests for the DV4000 were done with the high capacity battery. When I tested the Qosmio G25, I used its standard battery, which has half the capacity of the DV4000's high capacity battery (4400 mAh). I'll discuss this issue later and explain why we can still compare battery life results between the two notebooks.

Both the DV4000 and the G25 have high end graphics controllers: the DV4000 ATI's Mobility Radeon X700 and the G25 NVIDIA's GeForce Go 6600 mobile controller. These controllers provide enough graphics power to run more complex 2D and 3D graphics applications including games. By recently making the Radeon X700 available as an alternative to Intel's Graphics Media Accelerator 900, HP significantly enhanced the usability and extended the lifetime of the DV4000 platform.

I've been testing so many lightweight laptops outfitted, at best, with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 controller that I almost began to believe that portable computers were useless for fancy graphics applications. My DV4000 graphics tests and memories of my G25 tests easily brought me back to reality. It's really possible for a portable computer to do more than 1 frame per second of 3D motion graphics.

Lenovo G550

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist
of the IBM Laptop Battery   First post by: www.itsbattery.com

For those that are looking for a sturdy laptop at a low price, the Lenovo G550 does an excellent job. With its well designed and comfortable keyboard, the G550 provides a very well designed layout for extended use which is good since they have improved the running time over their previous model. The downside is that the G550 has dropped a number of ports found in the previous G530 that will be missed and its $600 price tag is a bit higher than similar equipped laptops.

Pros

•Very Sturdy Feel

•Excellent Keyboard

•Improved Battery Life Over G530

Cons

•Slightly More Expensive Than Similarly Equipped Laptops

•Lacks Support For 802.11n Wireless

•Fewer Ports Than G530 Model

Description

•Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200 Dual Core Mobile Processor

•4GB PC2-5300 DDR2 Memory

•320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive

•8x DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Burner

•15.6" WXGA (1366x768) Display With VGA Webcam

•Intel GMA 4500MHD Integrated Graphics

•Fast Ethernet, 802.11b/g Wireless

•Three USB 2.0, VGA, 5-in-1 Reader

•15" x 9.7" x 1.4" @ 5.6 lbs.

•Vista Home Premium,

The Lenovo G550 is the second revision of their value laptop lineup that makes some significant changes for the better and worse over their previous G530 laptop. It is slightly larger than the last model due to the 15.6-inch display that uses a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen is one of the nicer in the budget market with wide viewing angles and bright colors. It would be nice to see them move away from the glossy coating.

While the G550 uses a plastic exterior, Lenovo has done an excellent job with the texturing of the material and color so that it hides any smudges and fingerprints compared to the glossy designs of many other companies. Even though it uses a plastic shell, it feels very solid with very little flex in the screen or keyboard.

Lenovo continues they excellent keyboard design with the G550 using a design that is very similar to their more expensive ThinkPad lineup. With the added space of the larger screen, Lenovo has manage to also include a numeric keypad although they did have to shrink the size of some of the keys to do so. They were smart in placing the trackpad directly in the center of the space bar to be more natural.

One of the big problems of the G530 was the battery life. The G550 uses a smaller battery such as IBM ThinkPad X61 battery, IBM ThinkPad T61 battery, IBM ThinkPad X41 battery, IBM ThinkPad X40 battery, IBM ThinkPad X20 battery, IBM ThinkPad R60 Battery, IBM ThinkPad T60 Battery, IBM 40Y6797 Battery, IBM 40Y6799 Battery, IBM FRU 92P1139 Battery, IBM FRU 92P1141 Battery, IBM FRU 92P1137 Battery but actually provides a longer running time than the older version and more on par with other budget laptops. Expect roughly three and a half to four hours of typical usage with two and a half when playing back video.

With all these nice features, it is disappointing to see Lenovo remove a number of features on the G550. The previous model had four USB ports, but this model only comes with three. Also removed are the modem and ExpressCard slot. It would have been nice to see them upgrade the VGA connect by including HDMI but they left this off.

HP EliteBook 8440w

HP's business-centric EliteBooks have been around since 2008 in name, but in reality, EliteBook is just a new name for the old HP Compaq business notebook line. With HP releasing a flood of popular entry level and mainstream consumer notebooks with both HP and Compaq labels, this understandably created a marketing issue for the costlier and higher end business and workstation class machines. Since the HP Compaq brand didn't have the name cachet of the iconic IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads or even Dell's Latitude business notebooks, HP's marketing team decided to scrap the confusing "HP Compaq" tag entirely and rebrand their business notebooks as EliteBooks.

We have one of the newest EliteBooks here today, the EliteBook 8440w mobile workstation. For a 14" notebook, it's quite the powerhouse, with a Core i7-620M processor and Nvidia's Quadro FX 380M discrete graphics chip to go along with 4GB of memory, a 320GB SATA hard drive, integrated DVD burner, and a high resolution 14" 1600x900 screen—it's even got a matte finish! But for the $1649 pricetag, the 8440w could have used a bit more power on either the CPU or GPU side, with a quad-core Core i7 (which is an optional extra) or faster Quadro graphics card at the top of our wishlist.

But even without a quad-core or a high end GPU, the 8440w is a pretty formidable beast, boasting enough computing horsepower to acquit itself well for mobile CAD work and most reasonable tasks. Obviously, it won't replace the power of a workstation-class desktop or anything like that, but is it good enough for on-the-go design work? Let's find out.

EU battery recycling scheme hits the UK

A European initiative to get the UK to start recycling batteries has launched today but there is still quite a mountain to climb to hit EU targets.

As of today, all shops that sell batteries will be forced to have a recycling point for people to return old batteries to in an attempt to make the UK recycle 10 per cent of its used batteries like IBM 08K8198 Battery, IBM 08K8197 Battery, IBM 92P1075 Battery, IBM ThinkPad R40 Battery, IBM ThinkPad R32 Battery, IBM 02K7054 Battery, IBM ThinkPad A20 Battery, IBM ThinkPad A20M Battery, IBM ThinkPad A21M Battery.

However, industry insiders have claimed we are only recycling three per cent right now and if we don’t hit targets the Government could be facing massive fines from Brussels.

Vince Armitage, divisional vice president of Varta Consumer Batteries UK, told The Daily Telegraph that the UK could face problems if the scheme isn’t publicised enough.

"Consumers will have to drive the recycling effort by taking their old batteries to dedicated collection points in retail outlets or municipal sites," he said.

"Not only is this problematic in itself, if householders don’t even know about the directive and the responsibility they have acquired overnight, then the whole recycling effort will fall down from the outset."

Environment minister Huw Irranca-Davies thinks the scheme will be a great success.

“This new legislation will make it easier for consumers to do the right thing whilst ensuring retailers fulfil their part of the bargain,” he said in a statement.

“Old batteries can cause harm to the environment when they are not recycled. The new approach to disposal of batteries will help to reduce the number of batteries that now end up in landfill.”

HP EliteBook 2540p review

HP’s EliteBook business laptops are all built to last and the new 2540p is no exception; its tough magnesium-alloy casing can withstand far more than the usual knocks and bumps. Certified to military standards, it should be able to survive intense levels of dust, humidity, temperature and vibration so the 1.8kg ultra-portable will appeal to anyone looking for a durable machine that won’t weigh them down.

An Intel Core i7 processor provides plenty of performance muscle, despite being a low-voltage model. The dual-core i7-640LM runs at 2.13GHz and can use Turbo Boost to increase up to 2.9GHz. Paired with 4GB of RAM and a 160GB solid state disk (SSD), it managed a stellar 46 overall in our multimedia benchmarks.

Certified to military standards, it should be able to survive intense levels of dust, humidity, temperature and vibration.

Although it can't match Intel's newer Sandy Bridge chips, the 2540p still has plenty of processing power; even when running several resource-intensive applications, the system always felt responsive. The underside of the laptop did become noticeably warmer than usual when churning through our benchmarks though.

The other benefit of using a low-voltage processor is superb battery life. Managing just over seven hours in our light-use test, the laptop should be able to last a full day's work on a single charge.

Just like the outer chassis, the keyboard is well built and designed to withstand the elements. Each key has a reassuring amount of tactile feedback and very short travel times. Understandably for a 12in ultra-portable there's no room for a separate number pad, but the QWERTY keys are at least full-size. In spite of their slightly tighter-than-usual grouping, we were still able to type at full speed straight away. It isn't quite perfect; the function keys have shrunk to well under half size, which can make them difficult to hit without also pressing their neighbours, and the small Tab key also proved to be a minor irritation.

The keyboard itself isn't backlit, but a tiny LED spotlight next to the integrated webcam can illuminate it to make working in dark surroundings slightly easier. It’s angled so the keyboard will always stay lit regardless of how far the screen is tilted back, but it isn’t particularly bright; at the right angle, the glow from the display is more than sufficient for typing in darker environments.

The battery such as Hp F4098A battery, Hp F4809A battery, Hp F4812A battery, compaq 319411-001 battery, Compaq Presario 2100 battery(compaq 2100 battery), Compaq Presario 2500 battery(compaq 2500 battery), Compaq Presario NX9010 battery, Compaq Presario NX9000 battery protrudes from the rear of the EliteBook 2540p, but it's not too chunky.

As well as a responsive, albeit rather small touchpad, a separate touch stick recessed into the keyboard tray provides a second option for mouse control. Two sets of buttons provide the flexibility to use either input device, although they don't provide as much tactile feedback as we'd like.

Image quality from the 12.1in screen was slightly above average; the 1,280x800 resolution is sufficiently high for most tasks and images looked very sharp. Colours were mostly accurate although there was a slight imbalance towards the yellow end of the spectrum. Brightness was excellent, which should make it easier to use the system in direct sunlight. Vertical viewing angles are very limited, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem; the screen tilts back over 180 degrees. The matt finish also helps stop reflections from harsh office lighting obscuring the display.

Unsurprisingly for a top-end business machine, the EliteBook 2540p is laden with connectivity options. Two of the three USB2 ports are found at the back, along with the Gigabit Ethernet port and battery pack, which protrudes outwards slightly from the main chassis. The third USB port is on the left side, between the modem and DVD re-writer.

The right side holds four-pin FireWire 400, VGA, DisplayPort and port replicator connector, as well as an all-important Kensington security lock mount for when working on the move. Finally, an ExpressCard /34 slot sits above a SD memory card reader, so there’s even room to add further connectivity at a later date.
