Dell has revealed a new luxury brand of laptops targeted at "style-minded people". The first of the new Adamo laptops will rival Apple's MacBook Air.

The company claimed that the laptop is the "world's thinnest laptop", measuring 0.65in at its thinnest point. The laptop's case is made from a single piece of aluminium, an edge-to-edge glass display and is available in two colours, "Onyx" and "Pearl". Dell has also launched a range of complementary accessories for the laptop, including ladies' handbags.

Dell's style-conscious laptop doesn't come cheap, with prices starting at £1,650 for the Admire model. This has a 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB 800MHz DDR3 RAM and a 128GB SSD. There's also the high-end Desire, which will cost £2,249. It has a faster 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM and integrated mobile broadband. Dell claims the laptop has more than five hours of battery like dell Vostro 1510 battery, dell Vostro 1310 battery, dell T112C battery, dell Vostro 1310 battery, dell T116C battery, dell Y022C battery, dell Inspiron 1210 battery, dell Inspiron Mini 12 battery, dell 312-0810 battery, dell C647H battery life.

The introduction of the Adamo range means that Dell's previous high-end brand, XPS, will be used to denote the high-end models in Dell's existing range of laptops and desktops.

"Adamo is our luxury brand, while XPS is moving to be a performance modifier on our systems, like the M-series on BMWs," explained Ellen Murphy, press officer at Dell. "For example, we have the Studio laptops and then the Studio XPS, which is the top-end of Studio. XPS is moving away from being a brand in itself to the performance modifier on a brand."
