These Wedding Dresses Should Be Banned Forever

Many women dream of their wedding day long before they even meet the person they eventually end up marrying. Yes, there’s probably some silhouette in these daydreams, but on the whole, it’s not always the who that’s of interest. A woman dreams of her dress. She dreams of the food. She thinks about being walked down the aisle and tossing the bouquet. While this all may seem quite superficial, it’s a woman’s day to shine. On this day, all eyes are on her. She is the bride after all. She is going to glide down the aisle and marry the love of her life. There will then be a huge feast filled with tasty delights and loved ones constantly congratulating her. They say this is the day on which you start the rest of your life. They say it will be the happiest day of your life. Come to think of it, they say a lot when it comes to your wedding day.
They talk about all the wonderful things that accompany a wedding day, but they don’t mention the bad. The bad can basically be narrowed down to one thing: stress. Wedding days are incredibly stressful events, and this stress generally lands squarely on the bride’s shoulders. This happens not because of unwilling grooms but rather because brides opt for the stress. They want things to be perfect. This most certainly includes the dress. Oh, the dress! How women fret over the perfect dress. They go to dozens of shops and try on hundreds of dresses — all in the hope of finding a dress that makes them feel like their most beautiful self.
Each woman has a different version of their most beautiful self. Maybe it is looking like a princess or even a fairy. Then there are women who do not stick to the conventional. They don’t conform to tradition and most certainly don’t walk down the aisle in a white dress. They throw feathers into the mix. They include rhinestones, gemstones and basically any other stone that promises to sparkle. They don’t shy away from colors. They’re not afraid to mix things up with fabrics and textures. In short, they create dresses that are unique, individual and sometimes just completely off the reservation.
Then there are women who choose a theme for the wedding and match their dress to it. These themes can be completely outlandish at times, but they all have something in common. They’re generally very specific to the couple. Maybe they share a hobby or have one very particular shared interest. This becomes very clear in the decor of the wedding and — sometimes shockingly — the dress. Maybe the couple are foodies. Then it’s almost guaranteed that the dress will have some relation to food. It may look like food or actually be edible.
When it comes to a wedding, nothing is off limits. Not even garbage in some instances. This kind of thinking means that people sometimes go too far. They stretch their imagination to the limit and reach a point where they should not say yes to the dress, but they do anyway.
Yes, everyone is different and should be given space to be themselves on their wedding day. However, there are some dresses that are simply head-scratchers. They make you sit there and wonder, “What on earth were they thinking? Why would anyone wear that? How did the dress end up like that and why would you spend so much money on only one day?” The dresses that follow are truly unique. Some are so different that they actually kind of work and others just shouldn’t have happened. These dresses shouldn’t have seen the light of day, been photographed and most certainly should not have been publicized.
As long as a couple is happy on their wedding day, though, does it really matter how odd the dress looks? If the bride feels beautiful and comfortable, then who are we to judge?

New York City is edging toward financial disaster, experts warn

New York City is careening closer to all-out financial bankruptcy for the first time since Mayor Abraham Beame ran the city more than 40 years ago, experts say.
As tax-fleeced businesses and individuals flee en masse, and city public spending surges into the stratosphere, financial analysts say Gotham is perilously near total fiscal disaster.
Long-term debt is now more than $81,100 per household, and Mayor de Blasio is ramping up to spend as much as $3 billion more in the new budget than the current $89.2 billion.
“The city is running a deficit and could be in a real difficult spot if we had a recession, or a further flight of individuals because of tax reform,” said Milton Ezrati, chief economist of Vested.
“New York is already in a difficult financial spot, but it would be in an impossible situation if we had any kind of setback.”
De Blasio has detailed $750 million in savings for the preliminary fiscal 2020 budget, but that won’t be enough to stave off a bloodbath if New York’s economy is hit by financial shocks — including a recession, which some see on the horizon — analysts warn. Gov. Cuomo’s preliminary budget has $600 million in city cuts in the coming year.
But city spending, up some 32 percent since de Blasio took office — triple the rate of inflation — may need to be cut deeper, these analysts add. The city’s long-term pension obligations have escalated, as well, as its workforce has soared by more than 33,000 in the last five years.
Other startling indicators:
  • New York state — and city — are ranked No. 1 nationwide in state and local tax burden.
  • Property taxes, almost half of the city’s revenue, is rising faster than any other revenue source — squeezing businesses and forcing homeowners, already hit by federal property tax deduction changes, to relocate to lower-tax states.
  • The top 1 percent of New York City earners pay some 50 percent of Big Apple income tax revenue.
“New York City could go bankrupt, absolutely,” said Peter C. Earle, an economist at the American Institute for Economic Research.
“In that case, the city would get temporary protection from its creditors, but it would be very difficult for the city to take on new debt.”

Camila Coelho shares ‘messy’ beauty tips at Fashion Week

Ladies, put down the powder!
That’s the beauty tip from mega-influencer Camila Coelho, who rocked orange eye shadow and a matching outfit at the Tibi show. The Brazilian vlogger has 7.6 million Instagram followers and 1.2 million YouTube subscribers on her English channel.
“Baking never really worked for me,” she tells The Post, in reference to the technique of applying powder over foundation, letting it sit for 10 to 20 minutes to set the base, then dusting it off. “When people show it in videos, it’s beautiful. But in person, it’s too cakey and heavy, and you don’t really need it. Less is more.”
Coelho is also over flawless, high-definition arches.
“I’m always trying to have less perfect, more messy brows,” she said, ruffling hers.
But she is digging colorful eye shadows and vividly hued, original eyeliner applications, like geometric designs and floating crease liner (as seen on Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Ariana Grande). “I feel like this season is really calling for color on your lids. I’m very into the neons: bright orange, blue and even yellow.”
As for her favorite new product, she recommends Huda Beauty’s Matte & Metal Melted shadows ($25 at Sephora.com). “It’s creamy matte on one side, and the other side is glitter. You can dab on quickly and go to a show or night out. Those are really fun to play with and practical.”

Help save the turtles with this recycled plastic swimwear

Save the turtles! There’s no arguing that our modern world has a plastics problem: A stunning 18 billion pounds gets dumped into the ocean each year, wreaking havoc on marine ecosystems.
So rather than contributing to the plastic waste, try and do the exact opposite. Why not splash in the sea this summer with a clean conscience, in an (environmentally) clean swimsuit?
This week, Madewell launched its first ever sustainable swimwear line called “Second Wave,” composed of 32 bathing suit styles for women. Ranging from fun prints (stripes or florals) to classic solids, the pieces retail at friendly price points of $100 or less.
The entire collection has stopped approximately 50,920 bottles from entering landfills or the ocean so far: A one-piece suit is equal to about eight bottles, while the ‘kinis are equal to four.
Upcycling plastic water bottles isn’t an entirely new idea — Patagonia has been doing this since ’93, and Everlane recently got into the business with its ReNew line — but it’s notable that a brand like Madewell, whose original ethos isn’t based in sustainability, has hopped on the trend.
It’s part of a growing trend of fashion brands adopting sustainable practices.

Amazon targets Tesla with $700M investment in electric truck maker

Watch out, Elon — Jeff Bezos just popped up in your rearview mirror.
Amazon’s billionaire boss — whose rocket startup Blue Origin has been locked in a space race against Musk’s SpaceX — now appears to be chasing Tesla.
Last week, electric pickup truck maker Rivian announced that Amazon was leading a $700 million investment round in the company. That was just days after Amazon backed a $530 million funding round for Aurora, a self-driving tech startup.
While Musk’s Tesla has lately delivered razor-thin profits as it scrambles to bring a mass-market Model 3 sedan to consumers, Bezos appears ready to open his bottomless checkbook in a bid to hijack the industry, insiders said.
The Rivian investment “was a major shot across the bow of Tesla,” Wedbush Securities’ Dan Ives told The Post. “When you look at potential Tesla competitors, Rivian is the one that really stands out.”
In November, Rivian unveiled a fully electric pickup truck and SUV, and said that it plans to put them on the streets by 2020. That was just days after Musk said in an interview he was planning an all-electric pickup with a “futuristic-like cyberpunk ‘Blade Runner’ design.”
Musk — who has promised a Tesla Model Y SUV by 2020, with the pickup to follow sometime after — added that he didn’t care whether people like the Tesla pickup or not.
Meanwhile, the notoriously relentless Bezos is plowing into an increasingly futuristic-looking transportation strategy. Last month, Amazon was spotted using big rigs on the highway, powered by self-driving tech from a startup called Embark. Also in January, Amazon unveiled a beer-cooler-sized robot that promises to drive around neighborhoods delivering small packages.
In December 2016, Amazon created a ruckus when it patented a design for what it called a “flying warehouse” — basically a cargo blimp that deploys a fleet of delivery drones.
According to D.A. Davidson analyst Tom Forte, Amazon is seizing an opportunity to “catch up” in a space that other tech giants have dominated in recent years.
“Because they’re late to the game, they don’t have the ability to start [these projects] from scratch,” Forte said. “While they’re ahead of the curve when it comes to drone and tech-forward delivery initiatives, an argument can be made that they were falling behind on autonomous tech.”
With Apple recently laying off 200 employees from its self-driving car initiative dubbed “Project Titan,” Amazon may have spotted an opening, according to Ives.
In a research note earlier this week, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said EVs are a perfect fit for the “dense networks” and “predictable routes” in Amazon’s distribution network. The Rivian investment, Jonas said, could be “the most significant milestone in EVs” since Tesla went public in 2010.
“Just when it seemed like Tesla’s lead over the competition in EVs couldn’t be any wider … we have Amazon making a bold move right into US-made EVs,” Jonas wrote.
Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.

It took 50,000 individual photos to create this image of the moon

We’ve seen some pretty stunning images of the moon over the years thanks to high-powered imaging tools from NASA and other space agencies, but you don’t need a massive observatory just to create a gorgeous picture of Earth’s closest neighbor. Photographer Andrew McCarthy produced the incredible moon image you see above (and here, in full resolution) using a Sony camera and a standalone ZWO astronomy camera that you can buy yourself for under $300.
The catch? Well, the image isn’t a single photo but the result of some 50,000 individual photos snapped, studied and then stitched together. That’s a lot of work for a single image, but the result suggests it was more than worth it.
There’s a ton of detail in the final 81-megapixel image and you could stare at it for a while and still notice new features that jump out at you from the moon’s surface. It’s a gorgeous image and it took plenty of work to make it happen.
“The lit side of the moon was processed using 25 ’tiles’ that were stitched together in Photoshop,” McCarthy told PetaPixel. “Each ’tile’ was a stack of the best 50 percent of 2000 images captured with the ZWO. The dark side is around 13 tiles, each with the best of around 50 images. The stars were captured with a stack of 50 shots with the Sony.”
The resulting image was then tweaked for contrast until McCarthy was happy with its look. The image is sharp enough to see lots of tiny features on the moon’s surface while balancing both the lit and shadowy sides so we can see as much as possible.
